For-Cause Challenges

Beth Bloom will present on how to effectively use For-Cause Challenges to help shape your jury for the best result.  Recently, Beth Bloom was part of the excellent trial team (Ed Budge and Hank Balson) that obtained a unanimous $27 million verdict for a medical negligence claim from an Eastern Washington jury. The Plaintiff, a prisoner suffering from a drug addiction, did not receive proper healthcare resulting in her wrongful death while incarcerated. Beth’s role in the case was to consult on themes and narratives for presentation to the jury. She was also charged with strategizing the jury selection.  Using for-cause challenges she was able to shape the jury for success in this case. Katie Chamberlain will also provide a brief overview of Batson, J.E.B, and Washington General Rule 37 challenges—the basis for which will arise during the for-cause challenge process and throughout voir dire. They will share their techniques and research on how to get the best jury for your clients at trial.

The location will be 3rd floor patio of the Rainer Square Building.  The event will be held outside, weather permitting.  We require that everyone that is attending be fully vaccinated. Snacks and Drinks will be provided.

There is no cost to attend this CLE.

1 CLE Credit pending WSBA approval.
